Dauphinois Potatoes

Who doesn’t love potatoes? They are good at so many things, and each form they come in is better than the next. They are the true super foods.

So its easy to make this super food great, so it wasn’t hard when I was deciding what I wanted to make next. This is the perfectly simple side for any meal, and it really looks like you have skill when you don’t need much at all- in fact I made this wile watching the series YOU for the 100th time on Netflix, so its really simple.

What you’ll need:

  • 5 large Potatoes
  • 200g Grated Cheese
  • 800ml Milk
  • 400ml Double Cream
  • 4 Garlic Cloves
  • Nutmeg/ Salt/ Cayenne Pepper

Firstly you want to do the annoying bit, peal and slice the potato. You want to cut them quite thin as you want them to cook through in the same amount of time it takes to cook the cheese on top. The thickness of a 2 pence should work well. Once they are pealed and sliced place into a bowl of water (so they stay as fresh as possible).

You then want to make the sauce, add the cream, milk and garlic into a pan- stir. Wait until this is all mixed in and the garlic has had time to flavor the milk and cream. Then add some grated nutmeg, a little cayenne pepper and salt. Cook for about 5 mins.

Drain the milk and garlic mix (to get the garlic out) and pour the mix on top of the drained potatoes. Add some grated cheese on top and pop in the oven for 20-25 mins- until the top is golden and great.
